Sell / Refine

Sell precious metals to us based on actual recoverable purity.

This page is the selling and refining entry point for bullion, coins, ore, concentrates, scrap, industrial material, and mixed precious-metal-bearing lots. It explains how payout is calculated, how material is tested, and how users move through shipping, participating retailers, AVMs, or industrial intake.

Estimator

Estimate recoverable metal value before you send it in.

This estimator follows your sheet structure: total weight, purity by payable metal, grams in metal, current price, refinement fee, and estimated payout.

Estimated Payout$0.00
Total Recoverable Grams0.00 g
Total Purity Entered0.0%
Estimator FeeCalculated at settlement
Metal Purity % Weight in Metal (g) Metal Value
Purity Based PayoutPayout is based on weight multiplied by purity percentage to determine recoverable grams, then multiplied by the current price of that metal.
Payout vs spotPayout depends on assay, metal type, fees, and program terms — confirm current payout ranges with The Gold App before shipping material.
Multiple Intake RoutesUsers can route through shipping, participating retailers, AVMs, or industrial intake points depending on the material.

Payout Formula

How recoverable metal value is calculated

The payout method is based on actual recoverable metal content, not just the gross weight of the item. If a lot contains more than one payable metal, each metal can be calculated separately and then combined.

Step 1`Weight x Purity % = Recoverable weight in grams`
Step 2`Recoverable grams x current metal price = metal value`
Step 3Gold, silver, platinum, palladium, or other payable content can be calculated line by line.

Example: if an item weighs `10 grams` and is `80% gold`, then the recoverable gold weight is `8 grams`. If it also contains `10% silver`, then the recoverable silver weight is `1 gram`. Each metal is then multiplied by its current market price to reach the payout value.

Intake Routes

Bring metals to a participating retailer, an automated vault machine, or ship them to us.

Participating RetailerAuthorized retailers can receive qualifying material and route it into The Gold App deposit and payout flow.
Automated Vault MachineAVMs can test, verify, and route deposits into the platform through the connected vault and payout system.
Ship It to UsMetals can also be shipped in for intake, verification, payout, or further refining depending on the lot type.
1. Start the lotUsers identify whether the material is bullion, coin, jewelry, ore, scrap, e-waste, sludge, or mixed industrial content.
2. Route the intakeQualifying material moves through shipping, a participating retailer, an AVM, or a designated industrial location.
3. Test and confirmScreening and assay determine the payable metal content, purity percentage, and whether deeper refining is required.
4. Pay the valueRecoverable grams are multiplied by current pricing to support payout, credit, or a next-step refining decision.
Ship to UsStandard precious metal lots, coins, bullion, and smaller sell orders can move through a shipping workflow.
Participating RetailersLocal intake points can accept qualifying material and route it into the platform for payout or refinement.
Automated Vault MachinesAVMs become another intake and verification path as the network expands and the vault side grows.
Industrial MaterialE-waste, sludges, industrial scrap, and larger lots may be directed to specialized shipping or industrial locations.

Accepted Material

Precious metals intake can be broader than bullion alone.

Category Examples Likely Route
Bullion & Coin Bars, rounds, coins, collector pieces with metal value Shipping, retailer intake, or AVM
Jewelry & Scrap Broken jewelry, mixed-karat items, scrap lots Shipping or participating retailer
Ore & Concentrates Sample lots, concentrates, mine-origin material Special handling with assay or industrial routing
Industrial Recovery E-waste, sludges, manufacturing scrap, catalysts Industrial location or specialized shipment

Testing & Assay

Assay types and refinement-ready intake

Material can be screened and confirmed with methods such as acid assay, XRF, fire assay, electronic testers, ultrasound testing, and other fit-for-purpose methods depending on the lot type and the payout path.

Field ScreeningQuick screening methods help determine whether material moves forward into deeper evaluation.
Purity ConfirmationHigher-confidence methods support payout decisions, industrial recovery, and investor-grade reporting.
Recycling SourcesIndustrial scrap, e-waste, manufacturing remnants, and sludges all need category-specific intake handling.
